This time of year marks what is lovingly known as kitten and puppy season. As spring brings warmer weather, blooming flowers, and fresh beginnings, it also brings a wave of tiny paws through the doors of CARE Humane Society. Each week, we welcome more playful puppies and curious kittens—each one in need of compassion, care, and a forever home. While it's one of the most heartwarming times of the year, it’s also one of the busiest. These little lives rely on our community to step up through adoption, fostering, volunteering, or simply spreading the word.
Kitten and puppy season typically begins in early spring and stretches into late summer, bringing an influx of furry new arrivals to shelters like CARE. As the days grow longer and temperatures rise, unspayed cats and dogs begin to breed, leading to a surge in litters. This seasonal boom means shelters are quickly filled with kittens and puppies who need urgent care, medical attention, and the loving homes they deserve.
The seasonal surge of puppies and kittens places a significant strain on shelter resources. These young animals require round-the-clock care—including vaccinations, medical exams, proper nutrition, and often foster placement—before they’re ready for adoption.
